{i am not bragging}
on saturday i had to come into my office for a bit because an agent had written an offer the night before and it had to be taken care of. i came through the back door like usual, so i never noticed that there was a woman sleeping on our front porch {my office is in an old home downtown}. when the agent {and his friend} got there to give me the paperwork they came through the front door and started talking to the lady. i'm not sure where you are from, or if there is a large homeless population there, but i can tell you in Eugene, OR the numbers are high, and having a homeless encounter at least once a day is not uncommon. back to my story.. this lady was so kind and apologetic for being on the porch. she told Tyler she could leave if he needed. he let her stay because it was down pouring and lets face it, she wasn't bothering anyone. after the agent left, and i was about to leave, i started walking through the kitchen when i realized there i was in my warm office about to get in my warm car, when this woman had no blankets was sleeping outside on the porch. i then decided to go through our fridge and cupboards and give her a bag of food {jerky, granola bars, fruit snacks, cookies, crackers, peanut butter, and $3 i found in my pocket} and make her some hot tea. but by the time i had gathered all of this up and taken it to the front, she was gone. i walked around to the side of our building and found what looked like the few small bags she had sitting there. i then tied up the bag and set it and the tea down next to her bags, went inside, and wrote her a note. when i came back in to work this morning, this was sitting inside the empty cup on my front porch:
{i can't get it to turn for some reason, but this is what it says:}
There are no
words to tell you
how much your
kindness meant to
me so I'll just
say Thank you!
so much - it brought
tears to my eyes
that was all the validation i needed to know that i might now have changed that woman's life, but i did make her day {and week} that much easier. so i am writing this post to tell you.. it doesn't take that much time, but you could really change someone's whole day around by doing something kind for others, expecting nothing in return.

Aw. That is so nice of you, and her. I love doing nice things like that for other people (and animals)
Umm, stop making me cry!
I used to carry granola bars in my car to give to homeless people. One day I had ran out and was on my way to work at the clinic, so I gave the man on Jefferson street my bag of Goldfish crackers. It breaks your heart, doesn't it?
